2005/10/15 - 2006/01/15
Museum der Moderne, Salzburg / Austria
curator: Urs Stahel

"With around 400 linear metres and 1500 square metres of exhibition space, the exhibition simultan. two collections of austrian photography from the collections of the federal chancellery and the museum der moderne salzburg, is being displayed in a suitable space that is perhaps the largest yet for Austrian photography. Providing an in-depth and exemplary look at post-1945 photographic creations, with an emphasis from 1970 to the present, more than 500 works from about 100 photographers and artists are portrayed. The exhibition starts with a Prologue to the 1950s and ends with a Clash of the most recent positions. Between these positions, Austrian photography unfolds in seven main themes: Actionism, Identity, Visual Games, Constructed Realities, Scenarios, The Countryside and Social Realism.
(...)
Photography not only records reality, it also simultaneously creates it. In Constructed Realities, this is explicitly done on the basis of works, which create their own complex photographic spaces and worlds in analog forms such as Lois Renner's image architecture or digitally with Constanze Ruhm, Dieter Huber, G.R.A.M., Gregor Zivic, Hubert Blanz and others."
